'America First is about unity’
Speaking at the JW Marriott hotel in Washington, D.C., yesterday, President Donald J. Trump told members of the Latino business community that a shared National vision brings together people of all backgrounds.
“America First is about unity,” the President said. “It’s about coming together as one family—one big, beautiful American family—no matter our race, or color, or creed, to protect our jobs, our communities, and our country.”
The Latino community has been doing particularly well under that vision:

  • Last year, the unemployment rate for Hispanics reached its lowest level in history.
  • Latinos are also starting new businesses at three times the national average.
  • More than 8 in 10 Latino voters share President Trump’s belief that immigration to the United States should be based on skill, not just personal relationships.

President Trump, who knew many of the attendees personally, ended his remarks on a note of appreciation and optimism. “This is our time. This is our moment.”

Stopping crime before it starts
During his State of the Union Address in January, President Trump told the Nation that prison reform would be a priority for his Administration in 2018. “This year we will embark on reforming our prisons to help former inmates who have served their time get a second chance,” the President said.
Pat Nolan, director of the American Conservative Union Foundation’s Center for Criminal Justice Reform, said President Trump’s declaration was "a milestone in the growing conservative movement to apply conservative principles to our justice system," Reason magazine reports.
Yesterday, the President took another step toward that goal, issuing an Executive Order to establish a Federal Interagency Council on Crime Prevention and Improving Reentry. “While investigating crimes and prosecuting perpetrators must remain the top priority of law enforcement,” the Order states, “crime reduction policy should also include efforts to prevent crime in the first place and to lower recidivism rates.”

At the center of America’s resurgence
It’s impossible to talk about the record-breaking successes of the U.S. economy today without talking about tax cuts. Unemployment is at its lowest rate in 17 years. Jobless claims recently hit a 48-year low. In January alone, the U.S. economy added 200,000 jobs.
“At the center of America’s resurgence are the massive tax cuts that we just passed before Christmas,” President Trump says. The evidence backs him up. Third-party consumer and small-business confidence indices have hit their highest marks in years this quarter. More than 4 million American workers are receiving bonuses, wage increases, or other new benefits as a direct result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
And the best part? As the positive impacts of tax reform multiply, more and more businesses have begun to turn their attention to the long-term investments that matter most for a healthy economy.

This morning, President Trump will hold a meeting with his Cabinet. Later, the President, along with Vice President Pence, will host a roundtable with members of Congress and video game industry leaders.

U.S. companies growing increasingly upbeat about world economy

“American business confidence in the world economy has surged, adding to an uptick in overall optimism as U.S. tax cuts and looser regulation improve the outlook for domestic growth, according to a new study,” Vince Golle reports for Bloomberg. “The survey also showed 89 percent were confident in the U.S. economy’s prospects this year, up from 80 percent in 2017 and 39 percent in 2016. Some 70 percent said the reduction in tax rates would benefit their companies,” Golle notes.

“Bad news for Democrats: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) tax bill ‘crumbs’ are feeding a monster rally in optimism across the country,” Liz Peek writes in The Hill. “Approval of the GOP tax cuts climbs steadily higher, fueling faster growth and increasing investment and undermining Democrats’ chances of a ‘blue wave’ in November,” Peek explains.
“President Donald Trump awarded 12 Americans the Medal of Valor Tuesday, including six heroes who responded to the 2015 San Bernardino shooting,” CNN reports. Allie Malloy writes that the President “heralded the recipients for their service and sacrifice before awarding them the medal, the highest possible decoration for bravery by public safety officers.”
JuanPablo Andrade writes in The Hill that “after years and years of a failed immigration system, the president has finally introduced common sense immigration reform.” Andrade notes that “since the president’s first day in the White House, Democrats in Congress have tried to undermine him in every way they can. The Democrats have always portrayed themselves as siding with immigrants, but in actuality, it’s the White House and the Republicans who have been working hard to come up with the most sensible solutions.”
In RealClearPolitics, David Farr and Jay Timmons write that “the past year has been transformational” for American manufacturers. “We hear it every day from manufacturers of all types, from large iconic brands in big cities to family-owned businesses in small towns: We’ve never been this optimistic about the future.”

The Real Russian Threat

The indictment of 13 Russians for interfering in the American election is the tiny tip of a large iceberg. We are beginning to be forced to confront how dangerous and how determined President Putin and his machine is to remake the world in an anti-Western manner.

We are faced with a determined opponent whose president apparently authorized an effort to either manipulate the political future of the United States or simply incite division. This pattern is not limited to the United States. President Emmanuel Macron of France has openly complained about Russian intervention in French politics. In Britain, there have been clear cases of Russian dissidents poisoned in a classically Russian style. In Estonia, Georgia, and Ukraine, we have seen even more overt and aggressive intervention by the Russians. Read more
